Baling Facility Account

The Solid Waste Facility (SWF) manages Facility Accounts for contractors and commercial haulers delivering waste materials. Company vehicles can be added for faster processing.

Billing Information

Baling Facility Accounts are invoiced on the first day of each month.
Invoices reflect all deliveries made during the previous month.

Please ensure account information is accurate and up to date to avoid billing delays.

Contractor Registration

All contractors must register their company with the SWF (Baling Facility) before delivering materials. To gain access to the facility:

Complete a New Baling Facility Account application
Receive account approval from the SWF
Use your approved account when delivering materials

Access to the Contractor Snow Dump Requires:

An active and updated Baling Facility Account
Email the Solid Waste Facility at @email to request a Contractor Snow Dump User Agreement, or go to the SWF gatehouse to request a paper copy
Complete, sign, and submit the agreement for approval before using the site
Reapply for approval each winter season

Hazardous materials can pose serious risks to workers and the environment if they are disposed of improperly. Do not place hazardous waste in your regular garbage — bring it to the Solid Waste Facility (SWF) for safe disposal instead. Before arriving, know what materials you are bringing and how many.

Keep all items sealed, secure, and in their original containers whenever possible. When you arrive, the gatehouse attendant will direct you to the hazardous waste area in the Public Drop-Off, where clearly marked bins and storage containers are available for each type of material.

Note: some hazardous materials, such as vehicle batteries and propane tanks over 20 lb, have a disposal surcharge.

Most commercially generated hazardous waste is not accepted at the SWF, other than:

Asbestos-containing materials (ACM), with 24-hr prior notice and approval of Solid Waste Facility Management. The required manifests must be submitted to the gatehouse upon arrival.
Material with lead detected, provided a TCLP lab test with results <5 mg/L is submitted.

For other hazardous waste disposal needs, including hydrocarbon-impacted soils, inquire with KBL Environmental.

Note: For inquiries regarding disposal requirements or to arrange an asbestos or lead-containing material disposal time, please contact the Solid Waste Facility at swfinfo@yellowknife.ca.

Small amounts of dog waste and cat litter may be placed into your residential black cart . Please note that they are not accepted in the green cart.

Larger amounts of animal waste may be disposed of at the Solid Waste Facility in the yellow animal waste bins during Residential Public Hours of Operation. Animal waste is free to dispose of for residential customers. Commercial vehicles with animal waste will be charged the commercial rate.

Note: animal waste containers, such as buckets, must be emptied into a large metal container that has a small set of stairs. All containers must be emptied and cannot be left at the bins.
