If you are experiencing or witnessing an emergency, call 911!
Calling 911 will connect you to a trained operator in the NWT.
NWT 911 is a service delivered by the Government of the Northwest Territories, which provides 911 call answering and emergency agency dispatch services to many communities throughout the Northwest Territories.
When do I call 911?
Call 911 when RCMP, fire, rescue or ambulance is required, including when someone’s health, safety or property is in jeopardy, or a crime is in progress.
Calling 911
When you call 911, be prepared to tell the 911 operator your location/community, phone number, and the type of emergency assistance required. The 911 operator will transfer you to the dispatch service for the RCMP or the City of Yellowknife. Stay on the line, be prepared to confirm the location of the emergency, your phone number, and other details of the emergency.
Never Hang Up on 911
Every time a call is placed and the caller hangs up, the 911 operator must call the number back to ensure everything is OK.
If there’s no answer, RCMP may be advised. It is quicker to tell 911 that it was an accidental dial.
Operators understand misdials happen and appreciate it when you let them know.
