Yellowknife has a vibrant film industry, with professionals working in every sector from camera crews to producers, art directors and post-production specialists. Equipment is available to rent locally to accommodate projects of any size. If you are a visiting producer, you will find an array of services and equipment available to you.
At the City of Yellowknife, we are happy to work with local and visiting producers.
All film productions that take place on municipal owned land for corporate or commercial use require a City of Yellowknife Filming Licence.

Applying for a Film Licence
- Read through and fill out the City of Yellowknife's Filming Guidelines, Filming Licence Agreement, and Orderly Use of Highways Permit before submitting an application
- Submit a Production Information Form to apply for a Filming Licence no less than ten (10) days before filming is set to commence
- Submit a copy of your insurance to @email
- The Department will review your application and communicate with the applicant on needed documentation, special requests, and payment (if applicable)
- Once all documentation is reviewed, a customized version of the Filming Licence Agreement will be sent to the applicant for signature and then countersigned by the City.
Note: It is the applicant's responsibility to inform the City of any changes to the scope of their filming project outside of what was submitted on the original Production Information Form. Any updates can be sent to @email.
