The Municipal Enforcement Division is responsible for the enforcement of City of Yellowknife By-laws, including but not limited to: Highway Traffic By-law, Dog By-law, Livery Licence By-law, and the Public Parks and Recreation Facilities By-law. This is in addition to enforcement responsibilities under the territorial Motor Vehicles Act, All Terrain Vehicles Act and the Dog Act.

In 2019, Yellowknife City Council passed Motion #0083-19, the By-law Enforcement Policy. This policy establishes guidelines for the Municipal Enforcement Division and reaffirms our commitment to public safety. In accordance the this policy, Municipal Enforcement Officers will proactively deal matters related to public safety and will respond, on a complaint basis to anything else. Complaints can be come in from the public, other City staff or other Municipal Enforcement Officers.
