In the event of a wildfire, the Environment and Climate Change Forest Management Division of the GNWT will relay information related to wildfire risk and behavior to the City. Based on this information, the City will post updates and public directives on this page. City updates will also be communicated via media releases, Emergency Email Notifications and the City’s Facebook page. During wildfire season, staying well informed will help you to make educated decisions and alleviate some uncertainty.

Fire ban status |
As of June 20, 2024 at 12 p.m., a fire ban will be in effect for the City of Yellowknife. This fire ban prohibits open air burning within city limits, including the use of approved fire pits, and will remain in effect until further notice. |
Current evacuation notification |
Currently, there is no active evacuation notification for the City of Yellowknife. Evacuation notifications (i.e. an Evacuation Notice, Evacuation Alert or Evacuation Order) indicate the level of risk to a community due to an emergency event like a wildfire.
