From June 14 to July 5, 2024, the City of Yellowknife (the City) is seeking residents’ input on a proposal to amend Zoning By-law No. 5045. The use and development of land is regulated by Zoning By-law No. 5045, while supporting the City’s objectives.

The proposed amendment is to add two new residential zones: Residential Intensification (RI) and RI-1, and some associated changes. Note that no property will be pre-zoned under the scope of this amendment. The purpose of this amendment is to facilitate medium density residential development, in an effort to increase housing supply to meet the needs of our growing community.

Residents can submit their feedback via a discussion forum and survey on PlaceSpeak from June 14 to July 5, 2024. Once public input has been collected and considered, a draft amendment will be presented to City Council for consideration. Following Council’s first reading of this proposed amendment, residents will have the opportunity to provide additional feedback directly to Council during a Public Hearing. More details on the Public Hearing will be provided as the initiative progresses.
