Canada Day Event
The City of Yellowknife (the City) invites the public to celebrate Canada Day at the Somba K’e Civic Plaza on Monday, July 1, 2024 from 12:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
During this free event, everyone can enjoy family-friendly activities, including a bouncy castle, a balloon artist/magician, and a variety of live performances. There will be food from local food vendors available and local artisans on-site. The performance schedule will be posted on the City’s website in the coming days.
The City looks forward to bringing the community together to celebrate everyone living in Canada. This event is also an occasion to reflect upon and acknowledge the past, and to highlight our commitment to towards reconciliation.

Canada Day Parade
The City advises residents that there will be road closures on Monday, July 1, 2024 for the Canada Day Parade, hosted by the Rotary Club.
The parade will start at the intersection of 48th Street and 49th Avenue at 11:00 a.m. The parade will continue down 48th Street, head south along Franklin Avenue, and turn left onto Forrest Drive, where the parade ends. Note that due to construction, there is no access to the arena parking lot as in past years.
Roads along the parade route will be closed from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (see barricades indicated on map below). From 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., there will be no parking along the parade route and the public should expect delays when driving downtown. Signage will be put in place 24 hours in advance, advising residents to move vehicles to avoid being towed and/or ticketed.
