The City of Yellowknife is hosting Arctic Urban-Regional Cooperation (AURC) workshops from March 11-13, 2025, for programme participants. The workshops are focused on economic resilience in the north, sustainable place-making and destination development, and succeeding globally in the talent market. Mr. Mads Frederiksen, Executive Director of the Arctic Economic Council (AEC), has been invited as the keynote speaker. The AEC is a pan-arctic independent business membership organization established in 2014. The organization facilitates Arctic sustainable economic development throughout the Arctic region and delivers policy advocacy, networking, and outreach.
The Arctic Urban-Regional Cooperation (AURC) programme, funded by the European Union, gathers 15 local authorities from Canada, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and USA. The City of Yellowknife has been one of the 15 communities participating in this network of Arctic communities since it was launched in January 2024.
“I am excited to host the AURC and look forward to rich dialogue on connecting Yellowknife and the surrounding region to circumpolar trade. Our businesses and industries have lots to offer the circumpolar Arctic economy, and we have lots to gain from access to technologies, services and consumer goods designed with the Arctic in mind.”
