Canada’s flag turns 60 tomorrow! Canada’s red and white maple leaf flag was raised for the first time on Parliament Hill on February 15, 1965. The national flag is a symbol of pride for Canadians and this year Canadians are encouraged to express their national pride and “show the flag”. In the spirit of National Flag of Canada Day, the City of Yellowknife will be proudly displaying the Canadian Flag at city facilities across the community.

“Canada is experiencing threats to our economic security and identity as a nation. It is more important than ever that Canadians express their love for our country. We encourage everyone to raise their flag to celebrate National Flag Day” says Mayor Rebecca Alty.

As Yellowknife acknowledges National Flag of Canada Day alongside municipalities across the country, it reaffirms its commitment to honouring Canada’s heritage and future.
