“Winter Lights Across Canada” is an annual initiative lead by Government of Canada, where monuments and important sites across the country are illuminated in a display of holiday lights on the same night. This event brings people together, allowing Canadians to participate and join in the spirit of the season. The City of Yellowknife and the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly are excited to take part in this festive tradition.
Members of the public are invited to come enjoy the festivities. The schedule will take place in Yellowknife as follows:
4:45 p.m. – Residents are invited to gather at the Somba K’e Amphitheater and watch as the dazzling display of lights illuminate the park for the first time this season.
5:00 p.m. – From City Hall, everyone can make their way to the Legislative Assembly, following the holiday lights on the pathway from the Museum. Warm up with hot beverages and treats upon your arrival.
Enjoy a spectacular performance from the Tetlit Gwich’in Dancers in the Great Hall. Take some time to view Christmas trees decorated by kindergarteners from Yellowknife, Ndılǫ and Dettah. Watch as the new Speaker-elect of the 20th Assembly illuminates the lights in the Great Hall and welcome a special visitor from the North Pole!
