UPDATE SEPTEMBER 23, 2023: Due to the air quality currently in Yellowknife, the City of Yellowknife (the City) is cancelling its Welcome Home Gathering planned for today, September 23, 2023. While it's an unfortunate outcome, the safety of everyone is our primary concern.

The City of Yellowknife is hosting a Welcome Home gathering on Saturday, September 23, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Somba K’e Civic Plaza.

There will be live music and additional entertainers. Residents can sit and enjoy the music, enjoy the Kids Zone by going on the bouncy castles or getting their face painted, or use this as an opportunity to reconnect with friends and family. Residents are encouraged to grab take-out to eat in the park from a local restaurant or food vendor to support Yellowknife’s small businesses.

In addition to this event, the City is encouraging residents to spend some time this weekend shopping local! Grab some food from one of our awesome local restaurants or pop into your favourite local shop when you get the chance this weekend. If you do, you could win one of ten $100 gift cards to the local business of your choice.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Take a photo of your receipt proving you spent $50 or more at a local business or restaurant in Yellowknife on September 22, 23 or 24, 2023. 2 entries (must be from different locations) will be accepted per person. We will work to accept various types of receipts (electronic and paper), as we know different vendors have different practices. You must submit a receipt for a chance to win.

Step 2: Upload your photo to this form on the City’s website by Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 5 p.m. This form will be published on Friday, September 22, at 9 a.m. Not able to access this? Send an email to ecd@yellowknife.ca with a photo of your receipt, your contact information and where you’d want your gift card to, and we will include it in the draw.

Step 3: Stay tuned! The City will draw winners on Friday, September 29.
