At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, the City of Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) responded to a structure fire at Sunridge Place Apartments, located at 5603 51A Ave. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from a first-floor apartment of the three-story complex. The YKFD quickly gained entry, extinguished the fire, and remained on scene for approximately three hours to ensure safety and security in the area. The cause of the fire is under investigation by YKFD, as the lead agency, and the Office of the Fire Marshal.
There were no injuries, and the fire was confined to a single unit. Northview and Yellowknife Housing Authority are coordinating efforts to ensure the well-being of any displaced tenants. The Fire Division deployed 15 personnel across Pump 4, Engine 9, and Medic 7. Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Municipal Enforcement also assisted with traffic control during the incident.
Given the status of the building, it is not habitable for any occupants. Northview and the Yellowknife Housing Authority are coordinating efforts to ensure the well-being of affected tenants during this transition.
