The City of Yellowknife (the City) wishes to inform residents that the subsurface fire, which was identified in October 2024 in the Construction and Demolition (C&D) landfill cell at the Solid Waste Facility, has now been extinguished. The City will continue regular monitoring as per our usual protocols.

As of Thursday, February 13, the Solid Waste Facility will resume its regular hours of operation during the week and on weekends for residents and commercial contractors.

Residential hours:

  • Monday: Closed
  • Tuesday to Sunday: 11:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
  • Closed: Holidays

Commercial hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 11:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
  • Closed: Holidays
