On Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 4:03 p.m., the Yellowknife Fire Division, with assistance from the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Department of Environment and Climate Change, responded to a fire 150 meters behind the Legislative Assembly building. Upon arrival, crews found a prebuilt tent pad burning, with fire extending to the vegetation. The tent pad was destroyed during the fire.
Personnel successfully contained the fire to the area, deploying hose lines until the fire was extinguished. Overhaul was conducted to ensure the fire was out.
A reminder to residents that there is currently a local and regional fire ban in place. Not following fire bans puts the whole community at risk. Do your part to reduce the risk of wildfires – stay informed and obey all fire bans.
