Dog Impound Fee Increased

The City of Yellowknife (the City) would like to remind the public of the increase in the dog impoundment fee, which took effect on January 1, 2025. This fee increase was approved by City Council in December 2024.

Current impoundment fee: $250/day per dog

The dog impoundment fee applies to dog owners whose pet is being held due to being separated from their owner.

This fee adjustment supports the increasing costs of daily care when dogs are impounded. Dog owners are encouraged to ensure their pets are properly licensed, controlled, and supervised at all times to avoid impoundment and associated fees.

The City is committed to ensuring the safety of our community and promoting responsible dog ownership.  Municipal Enforcement Officers are trained and equipped to deal with any sort of complaint or call involving dogs to ensure compliance with City by-laws.
