The City of Yellowknife (the City) and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) Local X0345 unit representing the main bargaining unit of City employees have reached a tentative agreement. If ratified by the parties, the agreement will last until December 31, 2027, once in effect.
Once a tentative agreement is reached, the Union must get it ratified by its members, meaning there must be a majority ‘yes’ vote in favour of the proposed agreement. When that happens, it must then come forward to Council for approval. PSAC is seeking to ratify the agreement this week and the Mayor and Council are committed to doing so at the earliest opportunity.
The tentative agreement includes the conversion to the City’s new classification system and pay grid, which provides for a 2.25% wage increase retroactive to January 1, 2024. The tentative agreement is a 4-year term ending on December 31, 2027, and includes annual 3% increases as listed:
- January 1, 2025 – 3%
- January 1, 2026 – 3%
- January 1, 2027 – 3%
The tentative deal also includes additions to both leave and allowance provisions with respect to Rest Periods, Casual Leave, Indigenous Cultural Leave, Parental Leave, Birth and Adoption Leave and Personal Safety Footwear.
The City continues to work with the PSAC Local unit representing the Municipal Enforcement Division and the IAFF unit (Yellowknife Fire Division) to negotiate the collective agreements for those staff members.
The City of Yellowknife is committed to the collective bargaining process and values the hard work undertaken by all sides to reach a fair and forward looking deal.
