The City of Yellowknife (the City) and Naka Power Utilities (Yellowknife) are pleased to announce the return of the annual Holiday Lights Competition. Residents are invited to brighten up our community during this dark time of year by decorating their homes with festive lights.

Participating residents are asked to leave their lights on from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. from December 14, 2024 to January 6, 2025. From December 14-20, 2024, residents and Naka Power Utilities (Yellowknife) staff will nominate the houses they would like to see in the competition by sending the address and a photo of the home to holidaylights@yellowknife.ca. Residents who decorate their own home are also welcome to nominate themselves. The nomination deadline is December 20, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.

Nominated homes will be included on a virtual map that residents can use as a guide as they check out the lights around town. Residents can vote for their favourite home(s) from December 24, 2024, to January 6, 2025 by visiting City’s Facebook page. A photo album with all the nominated homes will be uploaded and residents can place their vote by liking the photo of their top choice(s). All information related to the Holiday Light Competition, including the virtual map, will be published on the City’s website.

The top 5 festive homes will be announced on January 8, 2025. Each winner will receive a $100 prize courtesy of Naka Power Utilities (Yellowknife), along with a City of Yellowknife Holiday Lights Top 5 plaque for display.
