2023 Holiday Hours

The City of Yellowknife wishes very best to you and your families for a safe and happy holiday season!

The City's Holiday municipal service schedule is as follows:

CITY HALL will be closed on December 25 and 26, 2023 and on January 1, 2024.

SOLID WASTE FACILITY will be closed from December 24 to 26, 2023. Holiday hours of operation for the Solid Waste Facility can be found here.

CHRISTMAS TREES will be accepted at the Solid Waste Facility free of charge during the month of January.

WATER DELIVERY that would normally take place on Christmas and on New Year’s day will instead take place on December 24 and 31, 2023.

SEWAGE PUMPOUT that would normally take place on Christmas and on New Year’s day will instead take place on December 26, 2023 and January 2, 2024.

GARBAGE Black Cart Collection for January 1, 2024 will be picked up the following day on Tuesday January 2, 2024.

COMPOST PICK UP Green Cart Collection (organics) for December 25, 2023 will be picked up the following day on December 26, 2023.

FREE DOWNTOWN PARKING is from December 21 to 29, 2023. The City will not be enforcing parking meters during this period. People working in the downtown and parking for extended periods of time are asked to not park adjacent to storefronts in an effort to provide easier access to these stores throughout the day. All other parking regulations will be enforced - such as fire lanes, handicap stalls, and loading zones. This includes parking restrictions on Franklin Avenue from 3:00 - 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

PUBLIC TRANSIT SCHEDULE – There will be no Transit and YATS Service on December 25, 2023; December 26, 2023 and January 1, 2024 due to Statutory Holidays.  Afternoon Express buses will be cancelled on December 21 and 22, 2023. All Express buses will be cancelled from December 27, 2023 to through January 3, 2024. Regular transit service will resume on Thursday January 4, 2024.The Holiday Transit Schedule can be found here.

YELLOWKNIFE PUBLIC LIBRARY will be closed on December 24, 25, 26, 31, 2023 and January 1, 2024. Holiday hours of operation for library can be found here.

RUTH INCH MEMORIAL POOL will close on December 24, 2023 at 3:00 p.m.; will be closed on December 25; and will close on December 31 at 3:00 p.m. Holiday hours of operation for pool can be found here.

MULTIPLEX ARENA will close on December 24, 2023 at 3:00 p.m.; will be closed on December 25; and will close on December 31 at 3:00 p.m. Holiday hours of operation for Multiplex can be found here. For arena programming happening throughout the holidays click here.

FIELDHOUSE will close on December 24, 2023 at 3:00 p.m.; will be closed on December 25; and will close on December 31 at 3:00 p.m. Holiday hours of operation for the Fieldhouse can be found here.

YELLOWKNIFE COMMUNITY ARENA will be closed from December 23, 2023 to January 1, 2024. Holiday hours of operation for the Yellowknife Community Arena can be found here.

VISITORS' CENTRE will have reduced hours on December 24 and 25, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Regular hours will commence on December 26, 2023. Holiday hours of operation for the Visitors' Centre can be found here.
