Modern Gold Mining Workshop

Monday, November 3, 2025
This sculpture, created in 2009 by Yellowknife artist Francois Thibault depicts three drum dancers. It is located at the edge of Frame Lake in front of Yellowknife's City Hall.

Today, stronger regulations, better technology, and shared decision making with Indigenous governments create new opportunities to do things differently. As diamond mines close, it’s time to talk about whether modern gold mining, with new safety measures, could help support the interests of the community.

Modern Gold Mining Workshop 2025

What does modern gold mining look like today, and could it play a role in our future?

The City of Yellowknife is hosting two workshops to discuss how modern gold mining differs from the regions historical mining legacy.

Speakers include Elder Darrell Beaulieu, Mayor Ben Hendrikson and Dr.Shelagh Montgomery just to name a few. Join us for a hands-on, interactive workshop designed to challenge assumptions and provide candid conversations.
