The City of Yellowknife is committed to keeping the public informed throughout the current labour dispute. Regular updates will be issued to residents and posted to the City’s website.

City Still Prepared and Waiting to Negotiate

The City of Yellowknife would like to provide additional information on the bargaining negotiations with PSAC Local X0345, represented by the UNW (the Union).
On Tuesday, the Union told the City unless it moved away from its current offer of a 2% base wage increase in each year (totaling 4% more than what employees are currently making) it would not continue discussions. The City is surprised the Union would not work on creative options and is only focused on base wages.

Update on Negotiations

The City and the Union have been continuing negotiations to try and reach an agreement. On Tuesday morning, the Union’s bargaining team left the table with more than 13 hours left to reach a deal and avoid a strike.
The Union left the bargaining table without giving the City the opportunity to be creative and work with the Union towards a solution.
The City’s bargaining team remains in the bargaining location ready to share its ideas towards the settlement of an agreement.

The City of Yellowknife (the City) would like to update residents about the current labour negotiations happening with PSAC Local X0345, represented by the Union of Northern Workers (the Union).
At 12:01 a.m. on February 5, 2023, the City received notice from the Union that the City employees it represents will strike on February 8th, 2023.
