When will the Aquatic Centre open? |

What is the status update of the Aquatic Centre? |
As of March 19, 2025, the City is in the process finalizing construction and completing a series of compliance inspections, which will dictate the opening date for the Aquatic Centre. Following the completion of the compliance inspections and prior to the opening, staff training will be conducted during a one month (maximum) period. |
Has the City remained on budget for the Aquatic Centre project? |
The City of Yellowknife remains on track to complete the overall development of the Aquatic Centre within the allocated project budget of $71.7 million (excluding GST). |
What is the name of the Aquatic Centre? |
The City of Yellowknife is currently exploring sponsorship opportunities for the naming of the facility. Once a sponsor has been confirmed, the City will inform the public of the facility’s name. |
When will the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool close down? |
Once the opening date for the Aquatic Centre has been determined, a closing date for the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool will be announced. More details will be shared on our website, and the City’s Facebook page as they become available. |
What will happen to swim programs when the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool is no longer operating and the Aquatic Centre has not yet opened? |
There will be a period of approximately one month when aquatic services will be unavailable as we work towards opening the new facility. Passes will be extended for the duration of the transition period. |
Will there be any events related to the closing of the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool? |
The City of Yellowknife is excited to offer a series of weekend events at the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool to honour and celebrate the facility before its closing. Information related to these events will be posted on the City’s Facebook page as well as on our website as it becomes available. |
What will happen to the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool? |
A Building Condition Assessment (BCA) of the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool (RIMP) was completed in 2024 to determine the viability of repurposing the building. The results of the assessments for Phase 1 and Phase 2 indicated that the RIMP presents a practical opportunity for redevelopment. As such, the City will continue to maintain the RIMP to ensure the integrity of the building until a decision has been made for its future use. Costs associated with any repurposing will be considered in the City’s budgeting process. More information on the repurposing of the RIMP will be shared with the public as it becomes available. |
When can I sign up for programs at the Aquatic Centre? |
Prior to the opening of the Aquatic Centre, a detailed description of all available programs will be available on our online registration system. The public will notified via the City’s Facebook page prior to registration becoming available. |
Will any new programs be introduced with the opening of the Aquatic Centre? |
Programs from the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool will carry over to the Aquatic Centre, with some possible changes to scheduling. Will the public swim schedule remain the same at the new facility? |
As compared to the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool, the Aquatic Centre will allow for more open and flexible access to aquatic services. The schedule will be modified to reflect the additional space the new facility affords. |
Will there be any changes to admission fees and passes for the Aquatic Centre? |
Admission fees and passes for the Aquatic Centre will follow the same fees currently in place for all recreation facilities. |
Will residents be able to rent out the entire facility or rent a pool at the Aquatic Centre? |
The Aquatic Centre does not offer private or shared pool rentals. Community or sport organizations can request lane rentals by calling the facility. These rentals may be accommodated depending on availability. |
Which vendor was selected to operate the canteen in the Aquatic Centre? |
The City of Yellowknife is currently finalizing the contract for the vendor selected to operate the canteen. Information on the vendor will be posted on our website as it becomes available. |
Is the City collaborating with sponsors for the Aquatic Centre? |
The City of Yellowknife is the midst of seeking sponsorships for the Aquatic Centre. Once details are finalized, information will be made available on our website. |
How do universal change rooms work? |
Universal change rooms are designed to be inclusive and accessible spaces for everyone, regardless of gender or ability. This type of change room comprises of a common space and individual stalls for changing. In the common space, it is required that you remain clothed. Everyone, including families and people of all genders and abilities, are welcome to change in the individual change rooms.
