Reinstating Penalties for Taxes and Utilities

The City of Yellowknife (the City) would like to notify the public that penalties will be reinstated for any unpaid taxes and utility charges as of January 31, 2024. Penalties will be applied at a rate of 1.8% on all overdue balances on the first day of each calendar month, until overdue amounts are paid in full.
Any overdue utility charges as of December 31, 2023 will be transferred to property owners’ tax accounts. If you are a new owner or a landlord, you should check all utility accounts...
Bush fire at Solid Waste Facility

On Friday, December 1, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. the Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) received a call for service to a small brush fire in the construction waste area of the Solid Waste Facility. When crews arrived on scene, smoke and flames were visible from a pile of brush.
The City of Yellowknife used excavators to move the brush around in an attempt to extinguish the fire, while YKFD used water to assist in containing the fire. The fire was controlled and extinguished.

Structure Fire Crestview Manor

On Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 12:45 a.m., the Yellowknife Fire Division received a call for service to a structure fire at Crestview Manor, 5001 52 Avenue. When crews arrived on scene smoke and flames were visible, and were identified to be coming from a suite on the first floor. The crew acted quickly to get water on the fire from the outside of the building.
The Yellowknife Fire Division entered the unit, continued operations, and extinguished the remaining fire in the first floor unit....
