Under the NWT Waters Act, the City of Yellowknife requires a licence from the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board (MVLWB) to draw water from local water bodies and to deposit waste. The City’s current “Type A” Water Licence will expire in May 2022. The water licence does not regulate drinking water quality.
The City has completed its pre-application engagement, and is now in the process of incorporating the feedback received into the documents. The City plans to submit its application to the MVLWB in January 2021. Once submitted, the full application will be available for public review and feedback on the MVLWB Public Registry. Check back here throughout the application process to learn more about the City of Yellowknife’s Municipal Water Licence and to review documents related to the renewal.
The City held a virtual webinar for residents on Tuesday September 15th, 2020. Residents who were unable to attend the webinar can check out the presentation.
