The Municipal Enforcement Division is responsible for the enforcement of the Noise By-law No. 3537. The Noise By-law includes restrictions on noise at certain times of the day, known as the Quiet Time, or the hours between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM, daily. The Noise By-law also prohibits certain activities which may disturb the quiet, peace, rest, enjoyment, comfort or convenience of any person.
Municipal Enforcement Officers are on duty from 7:00 AM - 12:00 AM everyday, and respond to noise complaint received during this time. Please contact us at (867) 920-2737 for any noise complaints during these times. For noise complaints outside of these hours, residents are directed to contact the RCMP at (867) 669-1111 or 911. You may also still contact the Municipal Enforcement Division for follow up on the next day.
General Prohibitions*
- No person shall make or cause, or permit to be made or caused, on public or private property, any noise which may disturb the quiet, peace, rest, enjoyment, comfort or convenience of any person during the City's Quiet Time (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM).
- No person may play or operate any radio, stereo, instrument or other equipment, on public or private property, in such a manner which may disturb the quiet, peace, rest, enjoyment, comfort or convenience of any person during the City's Quiet Time (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM).
- No person shall operate a motor vehicle, motorcycle or other vehicle/conveyance which may disturb the quiet, peace, rest, enjoyment, comfort or convenience of any person in the vicinity during the City's Quiet Time (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM).
- No person shall emit or cause any noise which may disturb the quiet, peace, rest, enjoyment, comfort or convenience of any person located in the City's Quiet Zone (area in and around Stanton Territorial Hospital) at any time.
