The Yellowknife Fire Division is a career department providing Yellowknife and the surrounding area with fire, ambulance, and emergency response services, including specialized services in automobile extrication, confined space, as well as water and ice rescue.

The minimum requirements for a career with the Yellowknife Fire Division are:
- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Level 2
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Primary Care Paramedic (PCP)
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Level C
- International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Adult
- International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Pediatric
- Northwest Territories Class 3 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement
- Physically fit with the ability to pass the "Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
- The ability to positively interact with team members and the community we serve
