The Wildcat Cafe
Designated Heritage Site per By-Law NO. 3635
As a born and raised Yellowknifer who grew up in Old Town, I have a connection to this neighbourhood and especially the Wilcat, where I worked for many summers starting when I was 13 years old.
One thing people might not know is that the Wildcat was set to be torn down after the original owner passed away. It was saved by the Old Stope Association - a group of Old Towners who did a lot of fundraising and preservation to keep this part of history going.
For locals and tourists alike, its a very charming place. The building is something you won't find anywhere else and the friendliness and casualness of the staff just gives people a welcoming vibe.
